Home BP monitors which are digital type are not at all accurate in my experience and I would advice you not to buy it. You must have seen the BP monitors most doctors use in clinics. They are mercury sphygmomanometers and are more accurate. It is not very difficult to learn how to take BP using that and a stethoscope. Go to any clinic or hospital which is not very busy and ask the nursing staff or the doctor to teach you how to take BP. You will find that it is not at all difficult. Then go and buy a good mercury BP apparatus and a cheap stethoscope. You will have to ask one of your house members to take the your BP as self checking is slightly difficult in these machines. When you check make sure the arm with the cuff, your heart (that is chest) and the BP apparatus are at the same level. If you take the measurement sitting at a high table with the table top at the level of your chest and keeping the arm and the BP apparatus on the table it will be fine.
But still if you insist to buy a digital one I would suggest you buy the Panasonic BP apparatus. It is not very cheap but performance is better than others I have used. But make sure you buy one with cuff being tied on the upper arm and take measurement as I suggested above, sitting at a high table.
