Going rate for using an ambulance service?

depends on a number of different things. are you using an emergency ambo or a non emergancy ambo, I will assume you are talking about a 911 call. After that it depends on where you live and if the ambo company there is ALS or BLS. This means do they staff there ambos with just EMT-B’s or do they actually put a paramedic on there ambo. A lot of places now put a paramedic on there ambo (higher level of care) so I will also assume this for your case. The next factor is how many supplies they use for you, if they are starting IV’s, giving O2, and using drugs then the cost goes up. The final part of the equation is that ambos charge by distance, so it depends on how far it is from where they pick you up to the hosptial. Then obviously if you have health insurance that would factor in also, if you call a 911 ambo for something that you could go in a normal car or taxi for and it would not cause you to die then the insurance company will not cover any of it for you. Also, if you tell the ambo to drive past the closest most appropriate hospital to go to another one you prefer the insurance company will not cover any of it. So without insurance for the above mentioned ambo and lets say you go 10 miles and dont require any drugs it will be somewhere between $600 and $1400 depending on the part of the country you live in. Obviously they charge a lot more for services in New York City then they would in Iowa City for example.
