Expirince major chest and throat pains after running, is this normal? Heeeelp!?

My little 14 year old sister was forced to run a mile at school today && ever since then she’s been expiriencing chest pains && shes also complaining that it hurts to swallow. For the past week she’s been lifting weights that are too heavy for her to lift as well. She’s not fat. She’s in pretty good shape. We are hesitant on taking her to emergency cuz our insurance doesnt do a very good job of covering but if we find that we have to then we will.
Is this serious or will it pass? We are most concerned the pain in her throat, its unusual that she cant swallow.

Best Answer

she could have pulled a muscle in her neck from the lifting weights and it was aggrivated by the running. is the pain in her throat or on the exterior like a muscle. if its internal, try heat & cold-try some hot tea or broth if that doesnt work, try something cold like ice cream. both will sooth her throat in a different way if its internal, and if it’s something small like a pulled muscle, the muscle and tissues around it will be inflammed from the injury, thus making it hard for her to breath. you can also try ice packs around where the area hurts or a heating pad-working the same way as the tea/ice cream but on the external muscles of the neck.

for the chest pains-tell her to rest. if shes lifting weights shes not used to and running like shes not used to, her heart probably isnt used to the extra work shes been putting it through and is a little aggrivated with her. take it easy for the night, rest, watch tv, dont do anything too strenuous. if shes still having these severe pains in the neck/chest tomorrow, instead of hitting up the ER maybe try your family doctor-its a cheaper fee and they’ll give you the same opinion as an ER doc. if they feel its something worse, they can send you into the hospital.

good luck!
