HIV Rapid Test accuracy after 47 days.
HIV Rapid Test accuracy after 47 days.?
I got informed on the window period of 3 months for a “conclusive and definitive” HIV Rapid antibody test, but I would like to know if there is ANY reliability whatsoever for a Rapid finger-stick test taken at 47 days, since that’s when I got tested and the nurse told me it was negative.
I have been having some symptoms such as joint pain which came about 25 days after the POSSIBLE exposure, possible exposure because I was sort of drunk at my room mate’s party and I was in a washroom with an ugly drag queen who came on to me (GROSS) I know he tried to kiss me….so I’m worried that something sexual MIGHT have happened and that I have forgotten it because I was drunk…even though I remember most of the evening. I think I was in the washroom with him for max ten minutes or something…and we were alone… Then my friends came and we went back upstairs.

I am freaking out and I’ve told all my friends about it…my social life is now crap.
Any help would be very much appreciated !!!
Also, knowing I had consumed a fair amount of alcohol (but wasn’t piss drunk…I mean…I remember what I ordered and ate for a snack).
Is it possible to remember most things of an evening but to forget ONLY the moments of a sexual encounter ?

Relax and take a deep breathe. The mind is a powerful thing and can begin playing tricks on you. Symptoms alone are not a reliable manner to detect HIV.
Nothing of what you report puts you at risk of acquiring HIV. The fact that the guy kissed has no relevance, HIV is not transmitted like that. HIV is a delicate virus that needs the correct environment to survive, deep in the cervix of a woman or in the urethra of a man.
In your case, testing for HIV will be strictly for peace of mind and nothing else.
The window period for the majority of people to develp antibodies for HIV is 22 days or 2-6 weeks which is called seroconversion. Testing after six weeks will provide a good and accurate reading of your status. Testing 13 weeks after last possible exposure is conclusive, however the CDC reports post testing after 3 monts to be reliable.
In your case, testing 6 weeks after is obviously a good sign and you are HIV-. Rapid testing is over 99.9 percent accurate. If you decide to test after 13 weeks, then it is strictly for peace of mind again. You are HIV-. Reminder: Always use condoms when having sex, espcially if you are not in a steady relationship.
Good luck
