I have been diagnosed with chlamydia.

Im mortified.I got it from my ex and only discovered monday that I had it after getting a screening when I realised I dont trust him.I’m only going 18 next week and I heard it affects young girls bodies more.I couldve had it from as early as may to as late as this month. So I dunno how long I had it or what effect it has had on my fertility.I don’t know what to do

I have been to a clinic and got my tablets.I’m just terrified long term damage couldve been caused

I’m sorry to hear that! You are correct that a Chlamydia infection (as can Gonorrhea) can lead to damage to the reproductive system that may lead to various degrees of infertility.
However there is no magic number of months or years. It would depend on your body and of course time… there is just no cut and dried, or even approximate answer.

I think that you should try, if you can, to get an answer from your ex as to when he may have picked up an infection , assuming he was cheating and wasn’t already infected. Many people have no symptoms or very mild ones that get ignored. If he did cheat and if he tells you the truth about it you might have a base time line. But that’s a fair bit of “If”.

If it had progressed significantly you might be having symptoms of PID. I think you must see a gynecologist for an exam and for the best answer to your question. There are links to more information on Chlamydia and PID below.

That is all the bad news and worst case scenario which I hope you will not experience. The good news, if you can see it as that, is that it is relatively easy to cure. And if it has been fairly recent, then I don’t think you have anything to worry about; if it’s not recent, your Dr can give you a better idea of if- and how much- you should worry. Best of luck.
