Do the doctors look UNDERneath your tongue?

Hey,
okay really need to know this answer, okay.
So, if im about to go to the doctors, and have my throat checked (eg. tonsilitis/streps/flu) blah blah blah, i need to know: do the doctors look UNDERneath your tongue? like, do they need to see under it?

Symptoms usually do not manifest themselves under the tongue for tonsillitis or streptococcus. If you have any issues or concerns with your tongue do bring it to the attention of your physician.

well nothing in particular was wring with my tongue, only that i had a piercing and i needed to know whether it would get in the way, as they are very hard to take out
