Emergency lights on personal vehicle?

Does anyone know the legality of the use of POV lights on my car, in Russell county, KS? I am going to be an EMT at my local hospital and will be a volunteer fireman soon, and think that emergency lights on my Mustang would be pretty neat :)

Dont do it kid.

Driving code 3 is extremely dangerous, and NOT something you want to do in your personal vehicle. Not to mention that it may invalidate your car’s insurance.

As you will learn — the first part of everything in EMS is “scene safety.” That includes getting there.

Here’s the priority list….

My Safety.
My Partner’s safety.
The safety of other agency’s personnel.
Bystander safety.

AND in a DISTANT… I mean DISTANT 6th place….

The patient’s safety.

Then lunch.

You will learn to operate by this mantra. And after working for a while, it will become clear exactly why you dont need emergency lights on your POV.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks. I only wanted the ability to run code when I got called for a fire. I figured it was illegal but thought I would give it a shot :)
