How do I treat my burn…

I burnt my finger on an oven tray almost two hours ago. I have kept my hand in a bowl of cool water since, which seems to alleviate some discomfort, however when I take my hand out of the water for any extended period of time (I’m talking about a minute, maybe two) it is intensely painful and feels like it is still burning – really really hot.
This makes me think it is a second degree burn, however it has a white colour – but this might be attributed to a blistering and being in water…

If you have any idea of what it is and how I can treat it, advice is most heartily appreciated.

When you have a burn, it’s best to keep it under cold running water for the first 15-20 minutes. It sounds like you may have a second degree burn, if there is redness and blistering. Do you have any burn creams in the cabinet? If not the best thing you can do is apply a light dressing and take some pain medication like ibuprofen or paracetamol. If the pain is bad you may want to apply an ice pack (NOT directly on the skin) and see a doctor as soon as you can. Good luck, get better soon!
