An extremely persistent tooth abscess?

I have been suffering form an extremely persistent tooth abscess?

I am allergic to penicillan and was given a course of E MYCIN 400mg and after the course was finished, my tooth was normal for maybe one day, now the abscess is back, and the doctor has prescribed me BACTRIM, is this a more powerful antibiotic? Has anyone else out there suffered the extreme torture of a tooth abscess? I feel rather lunatic-like with the pain. Would appreciate opinions, any helpful hints. Thanks

I’m not a medical professional, but I know e-mycin is relatively mild, with few side effects, and I think Bactrim is more serious stuff. Or maybe only different. I’ve taken both.

I had a dental abscess which resisted all antibiotics, although it was only mildly painful. My dentist had a watch-and-wait mindset, since I wasn’t in a lot of discomfort from it. I did a half-dozen courses of different antibiotics. Some made the abscess better, but it always came back.

In the end, I lost the tooth and got an implant which looks natural and feels normal. It was expensive, and my dental insurance didn’t cover even a third.
