Getting braces please answer ?
Hey, im a 17 years old guy, and i have to get braces soon because i have an overbite and crowded teeth. What is the whole process of getting braces put on. I just got spacers put in yesterday. Is there any rules you have to follow. Will i need a special mouth guard to play sports, preferably basketball ?

well i have braces now.
and the main rules apply to what you cannot eat.
NO:
sticky chewy foods (caramel, laffy taffy, starburst)
nothing too hard (ice, starburst etc)
popcorn
biting into apples
biting into carrots
i have braces now (im 19!) and it really sucks. i dont want to discourage you because they dont look to bad and im pretty used to them but i cant really eat soft doughy bread because its so mushy that it gets stuck in my braces.
my personal experience:
the reason i had to get braces is mainly because i have 2 baby teeth that have no permanent teeth behind them. they started to sink back down so we had to pull them in preparation for a bridge or expensive *** implants!
put in spacers
but the loop things on the back molars, top and bottom
glue the brackets on by using glue and some light thing to dry it i guess
put the wires in
put the bands on the brackets
my mouth was VERY sore for a long time (but i have low level of pain tolerance)
every 6weeks-ish you go to the orthodontist and they change the wire, tell you to wear rubberbands (to fix the overbite) etc.
my mouth is usually sore for like 4 days after i go to the orthodontist, when they do something new.
as you wear them, the wires get thicker/stronger.
i had to wear rubberbands from my top teeth to my bottom to fix my overbite.
i had a “button” that i had to connect rubberbands to rotate a tooth
some people (not me) have this bridge like thing in to top of their mouth that the put a key in and turn.
as much as i hated them when i first got them, they are definatly tolerable. so dont really worry about it, you will get used to them
