Why is my Resting Heart Rate so high?

Posted by · Leave a Comment

My husband got me a strapless heart rate monitor. I’ve been able to check my resting heart rate and I think it’s high. It’s been between 90 and 100. It used to be about 70. Is this normal? Can I lower it? Should I see my doctor?

Your resting heart rate depends on a number of conditions which can elevate and lower it.

The only time you can consider your actual heart-rate to be your RESTING heart rate is in the moments after first waking up provided you have not been startled into waking.

The likely cause of a seemingly elevated resting rate during the day can be the result of the different stresses induced on the body from day-to day living as well as a sign of poor heart-strength. The stronger your heart is, the more blood it can move with each contraction, and the lower your heart rate will be

Other things such as vein/artery health, and drugs can affect your heart rate as well. (yes, that includes caffien[chocolate, coke, pepsi, coffee]

I checked my heart rate this morning and it was 68. Thank you, that puts my mind at ease. I must be very stressed during the day for my heart rate to be between 90 and 100 when I’m simply sitting down. I do exercise and I am average as far as my weight and percent body fat is concerned.
