The scan needs to be repeated in three months because that is generally how long it would take for a ‘microscopic’ sized nodule or tumor to grow large enough to see. Even though this scan was good and no visible signs of cancer remain does not mean the cancer isn’t too tiny to be picked up by the CT or PET . . so they rescan in three months and compare the two scans to see if there is any new growth . . they will continue to rescan every three months just to be sure. Depending on the type of cancer the scan schedules are generally a CT or PET every three months for two years, than it drops down to every six month for a year or two, and than a CT or PET every year up to at least the 5th year.
