What are the chances she will survive this cancer?

My friend was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma at the age of 30. It was around her heart and esophagus. She went to MD Anderson for treatment, had extensive chemo, surgery and radiation. She was sent home and was being followed having scans every 3 months. With one of her scans she was told about masses in her lungs. Back to Md Anderson. She was then diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She has been back on a different chemo. Yesterday she told me they told her this chemo isn’t working and they will have to try a different one. Her tumors are not shrinking and are still growing. She had to cut our conversation short because she was having a coughing fit which I assume us because of the cancer, this is not good is it?

Soft tissue sarcomas are relatively uncommon cancers. They account for less that 1% of all new cancer cases each year. This may be because cells in soft tissue, by contrast with other tissues, are not constantly fast dividing cells. The most common site of spread is to the lungs. If she has been told she is in stage 4 and from what you are describing, I’m sorry, but it sounds like she’s nearing the end. Oh how I wish I was wrong. Be with her as much as you can and give her all the love you can give a friend. She needs her family and friends around her now. I hope for her sake, it doesn’t drag on because it doesn’t’ sound like she will survive. I am so sorry for her and you. She will be in my prayers. God bless
