THYROID CANCER SCARE – Advise, please?

Posted by · Leave a Comment

I’m a 19 year old, female. I have had this mass on my thyroid for years (around 4ish, or more.) I never really worried about it, but now… I do. Not to mention, I let it ruin my life. I have seen a few doctors about it and none of ‘em seem too concerned. I make sure to keep up with the appointments and what-not. I have had blood work done and it all came out normal. I have also had a couple of ultrasounds, as well; they showed that the mass hasn’t grown. It is big enough to where you can feel it and it is both liquid and solid; mostly liquid. It seems movable, but really firm. I’m not going to lie… I am a hypochondriac. I just worry, a lot! There is more to the story, but not too much. I don’t want to bore you guys and I do realize that you can not diagnose me. I’m just here for advice, that’s all. Cancer, or cyst? Thank you.

UPDATE: I am going in for a biopsy on the 4th of January. I would still like some advise, though… something to calm me down.

- I guess I have another SMALL one on my left side, as well.

It seems like you have a (complex) cyst. It’s nothing to get yourself too worked up about since cyst and nodules are quite common. Have you talked to someone about your anxiety/hypochondria? Having 1. no change, 2. movable mass, 3. fluid-filled mass, point more towards a benign outcome. 95% of nodules are benign, only 27,000 women and 10,000 men are diagnosed with thyroid cancer each year, so the statistics are in your favor that it is nothing. Also, the other small mass is most likely a lymph node. Good luck!
